Unit 13 –
To provide an opportunity for students to engage in an extended activity related to their discipline of choice. The unit will enable students to take responsibility for their learning by responding positively to the greater opportunities for individual expression and creativity afforded, and to demonstrate their achievement through proposing and realizing a project which integrates the skills, knowledge and understanding acquired throughout the course.

Scenario:

You have been commissioned to develop a body of work for an exhibition entitled “ORDER & CHAOS”. You may explore any area of Games Development as your starting point. The work you develop in your chosen specialist area will all be based around the theme “ORDER & CHAOS”. Work through the Design Development Cycle exploiting each phase of it through exploration, experimentation, risk taking and the use of chance. Each phase of the project is equally important to your final grade, so consistent effort and reflection should be made so that you achieve the best result possible. The focus is NOT just on a wonderful final piece.

This unit will be assessed at Pass, Merit or Distinction grade and this will appear on your Level 3 Extended Diploma Certificate that UAL will issue to you (please note that it is possible to gain a Referral, which means more work needs to be completed, or even a Fail, if insufficient work of an appropriate standard is presented for assessment).

This project is an opportunity for you to celebrate your achievements within a specialist field of Games Development. It is hoped that with this freedom you will become engrossed in developing a significant body of work that exploits and develops your creative skills and knowledge. Do keep referring to the assessment criteria and tutor feedback to help achieve the highest grade you can.
